1,000 Acts of Kindness Kick off was a SUCCESS!!

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all the community partners, neighbours, friends, individuals and LUSO STAFF who helped make this year’s 1,000 Acts of Kindness kick off a GREAT success!!

Together, the 1,000 Acts of Kindness campaign delivered over 3,000 donated items to locations across the city that do kindness all year round! Our Ripple Bus of Kindness departed from LUSO and made 5 stops!! First stop: My sister’s place!! LUSO Staff and 1,000 Acts of Kindness volunteers learned about all the work My Sister’s Place does in our community. Consistent with our theme of A Ripple of Kindness, we gave our wonderful community partners a bin of supplies that THEY can then pass along to community members who utilize their services.

Next stop: Ark Aid Street Mission! So many supports and services offered – Did you know they serve approx. 25-26,000 meals annually, and ALL food is donated from people just like YOU!?? Stay wonderful, City of London!! Support your neighbours!

ALL ABOARD!! We traveled across the city to Women’s Community House where we made a lot of ruckus on Wellington road, HONK FOR KINDNESS!! RIPPLE TOUR BUS!! START A RIPPLE OF KINDNESS!! Londoners were thrilled and super eager to honk their horns for us, spreading the love, and getting some much needed attention for our fantastic third stop: Women’s Community House.
Next, we traveled to our sister organization: South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre and dropped off some goodies, walked through the building and did our cheer for some fantastic community service workers!! 1, 2, 3, 4 Here comes kindness to your door! 5, 6, 7, 8 Helping others is really great! PAY IT FORWARD!

Last but not least, we ventured to Canadian Blood Services, bringing our energy and blood to donate and some sweet treats! We did our cheer, spread some joy, donated some blood and returned back home to LUSO to recoop after a fun afternoon of kindness and giving!! We thank all our fantastic community partners for allowing us to start our Ripple of Kindness with them!

IMG_1670Continue to get involved!! Contact me for upcoming events, to get involved, or to have me at your events! I love love love seeing the fantastic things community partners and neighbours have planned for this month! Let’s start a Ripple of Kindness in London, Ontario this October!!

Is Everybody Ready for the 2015 Campaign Kick off???

This year’s 1,000 Acts of Kindness Campaign kick off is going to work a little differently… There will be no dropping in here and there – this year it’s all or nothing!

You either start a Ripple of Kindness by participating in the Ripple Tour of Kindness or you don’t!! Don’t get me wrong. There’s still plenty of opportunities throughout the month of October to do kindness and even – consistent with this year’s theme of A Ripple of Kindness- START a Ripple of Kindness!!

But like I said.. The Kick off is different this year. In the past, it’s been a come one, come all type soiree, with freedom to come and go as you please. This year, it’s come one, come all – but if you come, you’re stuck. Because we’ll be moving. Because we’ll be on a bus!!

YES! This year’s 1,000 Acts of Kindness campaign kick off will be the Ripple Tour of Kindness. A bus full of Kindness-Doers will travel to 5 London locations spreading smiles, kind acts and items of great need to these locations! The Ripple Tour of Kindness will sweep through the City of London in a brush of kindness. This year we’re painting the town Green and White!!

The stops are a surprise!! There are hints here and there but for the most part, I’ve kept it pretty well under wraps, which is a wonderful and surprising accomplishment for me!! All I’ll tell you is our LAST stop of the afternoon will be Canadian Blood Services where Kindness-Doers will be donating much needed blood to our local blood bank! Did you know it takes 5 kind individuals to donate blood to save ONE person?? Let’s save a thousand this month!!

1000acts green

The Ripple Bus Tour will leave LUSO Community Services at 1193 Oxford Street East at 3:00pm and will return to the same location on or before 7:00pm, pending our fantastic adventure’s timeline!!

Thank you LONDON for the opportunity to run another great 1,000 Acts of Kindness Campaign!! Please submit your Acts of Kindness HERE or by emailing stophate@lusocentre.org

All the best for another wonderful campaign!!

Wrap Up Celebration – Grand Total!!

It is my supreme pleasure to have hosted the 6th annual 1,000 Acts of Kindness Challenge this year! The theme of this year’s Challenge was Kindness Connects and boy, did it ever! LUSO Community Services and the Anti-Hate and Anti-Bias program enjoyed tremendous community support and overwhelmingly creative and inspirational acts of kindness this October. This campaign wouldn’t be possible without fabulous community partners like the City of London, who funds the Anti-Hate and Anti-Bias program, rtraction who does an incredible job with webdesign, upkeep and hosting of this brilliant, award winning website, and of course Libro Financial Group who has graciously and generously sponsored this campaign for the second year in a row! Thank you so much to each and every one of you and a big giant THANK YOU to each and every participant of this campaign. It is my hope that this campaign will serve as a source of lasting inspiration to keep the Kindness Revolution going all year long!!

Yesterday, Wednesday November 5th, 2014 the 6th annual campaign came to an official end with a super fun Wrap Up Celebration at Citi Plaza Centre Court. The event featured a blast to the past with a look at some events and initiatives that took place during this year’s campaign, some engaging activities with the audience and prizes, special guest speaker Jeremy Grace, initiator of the Up High Movement at London Central High School, and a special thanks awarded to the London Police Service for their commitment to kindness this month.

Each year, we choose an initiative, LondonPoliceorganization or individual who has put a unique twist on their involvement in the Challenge. This year, we chose to honour the London Police Service for their goal to cover at least 1,000 fingers this winter! Not only did they far exceed their goal, but they took the theme “Kindness Connects” one step further and connected with partner organizations and new connections in the community to achieve their goal.

Oh and OF COURSE we revealed the GRAND TOTAL of kind acts registered throughout this year’s campaign!! How, you ask, did we do this? Two words: Balloon Stuffer.

We stuffed a large balloon with 5 small balloons. 5 colours of the rainbow! And – you guessed it – the numbers were inside the balloons!! One by one, volunteers popped the large balloons, popped the smaller balloons, and stuck the felt numbers onto the felt board.

Grand Total

In 5 years, the campaign has seen over 310,000 Acts of Kindness… And this year, we’re thrilled to add 75,310 registered Acts of Kindness in the City of London to that total! Bringing the overall total of 6 years of kindness to over 385,000!!! total

Congratulations to everyone involved for making such a positive impact on London. May it be an everlasting one, and may each act of kindness you receive, perform or witness inspire you to do more every day!!

Thoughtful Thursdays with London Police!!

Thursday October 9th, the 1,000 Acts of Kindness campaign celebrated 2014-10-09 1,000 acts of kindessThoughtful Thursday! Myself and a volunteer paid a visit to the London Police, paraded in with cookies for the cops and balloons for the spirit of it all!

It’s always so rewarding to be able to dedicate some time to those who really work hard in our community. The purpose of this event was to express our gratitude to the officers who wake up every day with the intention to make our community a safer and better place.

Thank you thank you, every single day!

The London Police have dedicated this month to Kindness by aiming to cover at least 1,000 fingers this winter!! Drop off your donations of mits/gloves at the Police station and help them reach their goal.

1,000 Acts of Kindness Kick off!!

Kindness Connects indeed!!

Oct 1st was the kick off for the 1,000 Acts of Kindness Campaign and boy was it ever fun! Students from Eagle Heights P.S were able to come across the street to Cherryhill Village mall and interact with some of the Seniors from Cherryhill Village. Together, they decorated cookies for community service organizations, made cards with love for children at the Children’s Hospital, shared what kindness means to them, and got to make some super cool friends in the process!! Conversation BINGO was the name of the game, and it was definitely enjoyable.

Thanks Monica!

A super special thank you to Libro Financial Group’s support, without which we wouldn’t have been able to put on such a fantastic event!! Thank you times a million to Cherryhill Village for hosting us and making the day so smooth.

Together at the event, we tallied over 1100 kind acts – so EVERYBODY deserves a pat on the back!!

Next up: International Day of the Girl on Oct 11th outside Central Library. Come celebrate kindness through inspiration between 1:00 and 4:00pm 🙂

Keep an eye out for other upcoming events and connect with ME!! ME!! at

A Look at Some School Activities

I know I said my last blog post would be my lassttt last blog post – but I’ve just been collecting so many super cool participant photos, videos, etc. Can’t believe the enthusiasm and creativity so I decided to share them with everyone. Watch the list of pictures/videos grow!

First: Check out our Facebook page for two fantastic videos from the 1,000 Acts of Kindness Campaigns of two fabulous London schools: John P. Robarts Public School and Sir. John A. Macdonald Public School.

The high schools in London were also hard at work spreading kindness throughout the month of October.

Below, the Kindness Club at Montcalm Secondary School presents a staff member with a donation towards caring for her horses just outside of London – beautiful!20131106_131552

Below is a beautiful banner constructed by students at A.B. Lucas Secondary School. If you look closely you’ll see the faces of all the super kind, spectacularly generous students that attend this school. Students organized wonderful activities and engaged the whole school in acts of kindness. IMG_3892

1,000 Acts of Kindness Community Celebration

Thank you to all who came out to the 1,000 Acts of Kindness Wrap up and Community Celebration on Wednesday, November 6th at Citi Plaza. I am deeply deeply grateful to the countless individuals and organizations that lent such great support for the event, as well as the entire month-long campaign. This was my first 1,000 Acts of Kindness campaign and I’ll be honest, when I first started planning it, I had no idea what to expect. Sure I had the fantastic direction of the Anti-Hate and Anti-Bias coordinators that came before me, but overall, I felt like I was embarking on a journey into the unknown.

I WAS BLOWN AWAY!

I couldn’t believe how willing community partners were to help. I couldn’t wrap my mind around the tremendous inclination by students and teachers towards kindness. I don’t think I ever fully appreciated the supremely kind people living in London and more than anything, I was extremely humbled by the countless individuals who approached me personally and offered their help and support.

I am super honoured to have hosted LUSO Community Services’ 5th annual 1,000 Acts of Kindness Challenge in London, Ontario. I have been inspired by each and every participant to work towards making next year’s 1,000 Acts of Kindness Challenge 1,000 times better!

I want to thank Citi Plaza for hosting our event so graciously and specifically our borrowed tech guy for the night, Justin, who quickly and efficiently set up our audio-visual equipment  and for really going above and beyond the call of duty. Special thanks also to Wes, our Citi Plaza Act-Of-Kindnessly-donated security guard for the event! And of course, Brian from Fox & Fiddle for the amazing food!

Funny story..On my way home from the event, I was in such a great mood while listening to the radio (103.1 Fresh FM) that I CALLED the radio station (hands free).. Have you ever done that? I seriously recommend it, it’s super exciting! No, I did not call to answer a question or play a game. I called to tell the wonderfully talented Ryan Valdron how excited I was about the campaign. Needless to say, I very gracefully articulated the main goals of the campaign and asked him to tell EVERYONE the final count of the 1,000 Acts of Kindness Challenge. Instead of simply announcing the number in his smooth radio voice, he played a RECORDING of my rant. Awesome.

So THANK YOU for that, Ryan. THANK YOU to everyone 1,000 x 1,000 times for making October a super memorable month. Oh.. Did I forget to tell y’all what the final count was?

So silly. Where’s a drum roll when you need it.. Nevermind that.

London registered over 65,000 (I wish you could put numbers in caps..) Oh, here we go..

65,000 ACTS OF KINDNESS!

Wow, London, blow me away why dontcha! Changed my world.

So much love,

Wrap up Event November 6

Come one come all!

It’s bittersweet. I’m not sure how I feel about this.. I guess a part of me always knew 1,000 Acts of Kindness and the month of October wouldn’t last forever. But did it have to go so quickly? Sheesh.

Nevertheless it is drawing to a close and I’m looking forward to the wrap up event – which I like to think of as a celebration of the fantastic and exceptionally kind month that has just passed. London has blown me away and I can’t wait to tell you all about it!! Come out on November 6 at 4:30 to the Citi Plaza Centre Court Atrium.

Enjoy some light refreshments, the company of kind people and some wonderful stories!! If you have something you’d like to share, send me an email at dunia@lusocentre.org and I’d love to include you in the program!!

See lots and lots of you there!
